Chapter 5
(At AJ and Liz’s house)
AJ: (looking through gifts) Toaster?
Liz: (holds up a toaster) Check.
AJ: I talked to Howie today.
Liz: Did you? (Looking for something) Do you have the gravy boat?
AJ: (looks) Ahhhh…yeah I do. He told me what happened?
Liz: Well I talked to Sandra…after she was done playing tonsil hockey with her new man Matt.
AJ: Matt huh? (Looking) We got a salad spinner from your Uncle.
Liz: Just what I’ve always wanted. So what did Howie say?
AJ: That he messed up. His house was a mess. I couldn’t believe it. There were empty boxes everywhere.
Liz: Wow that’s not like him at all.
AJ: I know.  So I take it Sandra is happy?
Liz: Yeah she is. She seems to like this guy.
AJ: Are we happy about this…or no?
Liz: (sitting down on the couch next to AJ) I don’t know. I mean…Matt seems nice…but…
AJ: It’s not Howie.
Liz: Right. It’s not like I can tell her not to see Matt and get back together with Howie. I don’t know.
AJ: I think it’s going to take us all a little time to get used to this.
Liz: Tell me about it. (Looks at an open box) What the hell is that?
AJ: You know…I don’t know.
Liz: Let’s put that over there with the other gifts we don’t want.
AJ: We can’t throw them away. It’s tradition. When family comes we run around and put out everything we don’t like that they gave us.
Liz: Right. Well then…how about the attic.
AJ: Sounds good to me. (They laugh)
(Back in Jersey)
Carol:  Jimmy, whose car is in the driveway?
Kayla: (walking down the stairs) That would be mine mother.
Carol:  (runs over and hugs Kayla) This is a wonderful surprise.  I never thought you would come home…why are you home?
Kayla: Just wanted to show Kevin where I grew up.
Kevin: (walking down) Good to see you again Carol.
Carol:  (looks upset) Yea…good to see you too.  So, where do you plan on staying?
Kayla:  In my room, dad said it was ok.
Carol:  Well, if your father said it was ok…then I guess it will be.
Kevin:  We want to treat you guys to dinner.
Carol:  Oh, we have a party to go to…but maybe tomorrow?
Kayla:  How about Friday?  It’s the day before we go back.
Carol:  Fine…I’ll pencil it in on the calendar. (Goes into the kitchen)
Kayla:  Ooooooo pencil.  We made it now.
Carol:  (from the kitchen) What was that?
Kayla:  Nothing.  We’ll be in my room.
(Kevin and Kayla go up to her room and hide until the rest of the family goes to their party)
