Chapter 10 |
(That next night with Kayla and Kevin, this is the night that they are going to tell Kayla’s mom that they are getting married. Kevin and Kayla have taken her parents to a nice restaurant to tell them the good news.) Charlie: Well this is a nice treat. It isn’t every day that my daughter’s fia…I mean boyfriend treats us to dinner. Carol: Yes. This is…nice…I suppose. Kevin: It’s nothing really. I just want all of us to try to get along. Kayla: (under her breath) Yeah like that is ever going to happen. (They all enjoy their dinner…all the legal aged people have ordered drinks, the waiter brings them the drinks) Jimmy: So…Kayla…isn’t there a surprise you have for mom? Kayla: Thanks for reminding me Jimmy. (Kicks his leg) Jimmy: Ooooooooooucccch! Carol: A surprise? For me? Kevin: You’re going to like it. Carol: Well what is it? Kayla: (chugs her strawberry daiquiri) Man that was good. Charlie: Kayla dear, now is as good of a time as any. Kayla: (sigh, takes a deep breath, and in a super fast speed says) Kevin and I are getting married. Carol: I’m sorry dear, I didn’t understand you…it sounded like you’re getting buried. Kayla: (sigh) Kevin: (grabs hold of Kayla’s hand and whispers to her) It’s going to be ok. Kayla: Not buried…married…Kevin and I are getting married. Carol: (forgetting that they are in a restaurant) WHAT?!? Jimmy: And I didn’t want to come tonight…man…I wonder if they have any popcorn. Charlie: Not now Jim. Kayla: We love each other mom. Carol: You’re only been dating for 6 months! Kayla: So…you and dad only dated for 3 months…and got married. Charlie: That’s true dear. Carol: No one asked you! Kayla: I don’t see why you have a hard time with me and Kevin being together…DAD KNEW AND HE DOESN’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT! Carol: (looking over toward Charlie) You…knew? Charlie: (scared look on his face) Knew is such a hard word… Jimmy: He even gave them his blessing. Charlie: Jimmy…GO TO THE CAR! Jimmy: But it’s just getting good. Charlie: NOW! (Jimmy gets up and goes to the car) Carol: You remember what I said when I first met him Kayla? I said I wouldn’t go to the wedding if my life depended on it…well…my life doesn’t depend on it! Kayla: (stands up) FINE! I DIDN’T WANT TO TELL YOU ANYWAY…BUT DAD AND KEVIN THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE IDEA…AND THAT MAYBE YOU HAD GROWN UP A LITTLE BIT…OBVIOUSLY, THEY WERE WRONG! (Storms out of the restaurant) Charlie: Bye Kevin…it was great seeing you…good thing Kayla made you guys get an earlier flight…I don’t think it would be wise if you stayed here any longer. Kevin: (stands up and shakes Charlie’s hand) I will take good care of her sir. Bye Carol. (Leaves with Kayla for the airport) Carol: You approve of this marriage? Charlie: What can I say? I like the boy. (Pays for the bill and leaves with Carol to go home) |
