Chapter 13
(A week later…Elena is discharged from the hospital…the day after her discharge is the funeral)
(At the church, Carol walks in arm in arm with Ann, the boys, Jimmy, and Charlie bring in Kayla’s coffin. The rest of the girls walk in behind the coffin. They all sit in the pews of the church. The service begins.)
Minister: (stands up in front) We are not here today to mourn the loss of a loved one, but to remember the life she has lived and the life she is going onto have. (He continues by saying prayers and doing readings) We would now like to have Alexa come up and deliver the eulogy.
Alexa: (gets up and walks up to the front. With tears in her eyes) I’ve known Kayla for a long time. We lived right around the corner from each other for 12 years of our lives. I went onto college and then moved down here about a year ago. I can still remember the day I called her to tell her to come down here. She was so excited when she got to ride in a limo to my house. I even let her hang out of the sunroof. (Laughs) Soon after that, she started dating Kevin. It was the best thing to happen to the both of them. I’ve never seen two people more in love than Kayla and Kevin. Through everything that happened…Kayla was there. She is…was my best friend and my sister. I’ll miss her so much. I love you Kayla. (Starts to cry) (She walks back to her seat and sits next to Brian who puts his arm around her)
Minister: Elena has asked to say a few words.
Elena: (stands up and walks to the front) What can I say about her? She was my friend and my sister. We’ve been through a lot together. I don’t know what I would’ve done without her. She was there when I lost my grandmother, for all the fights I had with Nick, and much much more. She always had some funny comment on every situation. I think that’s what we all loved about her. She never really let anything get to her. (Starts to cry) There will not be a day that goes by that I don’t think about her or miss her. (Cries harder) I love you Kay. (Walks back to her seat and breaks down crying in Nick’s arms)
(The service continues and after it is done they make their way to the cemetery. They arrive and walk over to the freshly dug hole. Carol sits down on a chair that is there and cries. Charlie stands behind her and holds her hand. Jimmy sits down next to his mother and takes her other hand. Kevin sits down next to his mother. The rest of the gang gathers around.)
Minister: (walks over in front of the family) Does anyone else want to say anything?
Kevin: (stands up and tries to compose himself) (wiping away the tears) The first time I saw her...she fainted…twice. (Everyone laughs) That was the day I knew that I found the woman that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. She had something that no one else had…she had my heart. She never worried about me cheating on her. She supported me with everything that I did and she never questioned anything. We had our moments, but through it all our love became stronger. The happiest day of my life is when she agreed to be my wife. I’ll miss her. (Starts to cry) I…I…I’m sorry. (Sits down)
(The minister stands up again and walks over to the coffin. He says a prayer and then it’s over. Everyone makes their way past the coffin. Carol goes over and kisses the top.)
Charlie: Bye sprout. (Kisses the coffin and walks away)
Jimmy: Who am I going to pick on now? Love you Kay.  (Walks away)
(Everyone leaves and Kevin is left standing there. Brian walks over to him)
Brian: You coming Kevin?
Kevin: In a minute ok?
Brian: You want me to wait?
Kevin: No that’s ok. I’ll be there in a second.
Brian: Ok. Take your time. (Brian walks back to Alexa and the others)
Kevin: Well Kay…this is it. (Picks up a rose that is in one of the arrangements) Watch over me ok? You and my dad can hang out now, but no talking about me. (Laughs then starts to cry. Takes the rose and throws it on the coffin. He leans over and kisses the top of the coffin.) (Through tears) I’ll never stop loving you.
THE END!
