Chapter 14 |
(That Monday, Taylor comes home mid-afternoon, AJ spots her and runs out of his house) AJ: Hi. Taylor: (sighs) Hi. AJ: What ya doing? Taylor: Going into my house. AJ: Shouldn’t you be working? Taylor: Yes, I just came here to get some lunch and some work I’ve left here. Is that ok with you? AJ: Ok cool. Taylor: Is there something I can do for you? AJ: Can’t a neighbor just come over and say hello. Taylor: Not unless that neighbor is you. AJ: That’s a little harsh. Taylor: Look, AJ, I know you, you are never this nice unless you want something, and quite frankly, you won’t be getting it from me. (Goes inside, closes the door, and leans up against it) God, why do I like him so much? AJ: (going back to his house with a smile on his face) She’s breaking down. She wants me…She wants me baaaaaad. (Half-hour later, Taylor gets into her Sebring convertible and leaves, drives passed AJ’s house. AJ is sitting outside and waves to Taylor, to which she replies by giving him the finger) (That night, Reagan drives to Tampa, goes up to Nick’s door, rings the doorbell, and turns around to leave before even waiting for an answer) Nick: (opening up the door) Reagan? Is that you? Reagan: Um…no? Nick: Can I help you? Reagan: Um…I’m lost? Nick: Again? Reagan: Ok fine, (turns around) I have to ask you something. Nick: Ok. Come on in. (steps aside so Reagan can pass) Want something to drink? No wait, nevermind. Reagan: (sits on the couch) Very funny. Nick: (sits next to her) So you wanted to ask me something? Reagan: (getting nervous) Yea…I …um…hi. Nick: (takes her hand) What is it? Reagan: (looks at their hands, gets up, and starts to pace) Ok, here it goes. (Still pacing) I have this work party I have to go to, and it’s really important, there is a whole bunch of people I’m going to have to meet, and there is this guy at work who won’t leave me alone, keeps on asking me out, giving me flowers, I told him I had a boyfriend which is a lie, and if I don’t go with someone, he’ll never leave me alone, and I already asked AJ and he said he was busy, so that leaves you and Howie and there is no way in hell I’m asking Howie. So, yea. Nick: So you want me to go to the party with you? Reagan: (still pacing) Yea. But if your busy, I’ll understand, maybe I can just drag Brian or Kevin or something, maybe Leighanne and I’ll tell him I’m a lesbian which I’m not but anything to get that guy to stop hounding me and… Nick: Would you stop for a second? Reagan: (stops pacing, looks at the ground) Sorry. Nick: I’ll go with you. Reagan: Well, I …ok…I understand, I knew this was a bad idea…but no no Taylor just pushed me…I’ll be going now. (Walks out the door) Nick: That girl is really weird. Reagan: (walks back in) Did you say you would go? Nick: (starts to laugh) Yes I did. Reagan: Oh. Ok then. Nick: So when is this party? Reagan: Oh well it’s this Saturday. Nick: Sounds like a plan. What do I have to wear? Reagan: Nothing… (Covers mouth) I mean, nothing to fancy. (Turning several shades of red at this point) Tie, khakis, stuff like that. No jacket needed. Nick: Great, what time should I pick you up? Reagan: Um…6 ok? Nick: Sounds great. Reagan: Ok…I’ll um, see you then. Bye. (runs out the door) Nick: That was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. (Closes the door, runs upstairs, and calls someone) Come on pick up…pick up. Taylor: Yello yello. Nick: Thank you. Taylor: You’re welcome. So how did it go? Nick: She was so nervous. I think she made a rut in my rug from all the pacing she was doing. Taylor: Yea well, I told you it would work out. Nick: And it did. Now all I have to know is…what’s her favorite flower? |
