Chapter 9

(The next day…after the awards…the guys are at a press conference. Liz and Sandra are there, but Kayla, Elena, and Alexa aren’t)
Reporter1: First off…congratulations on winning…
Howie: Thank you.
Reporter1: For those that don’t know…why don’t you tell us what you won.
Howie: Sure. We won best group and album of the year.
Reporter2: Are you guys excited about winning?
Kevin: Yes. It’s a great honor.
Reporter3: You guys were the first act to open up the awards ceremony, were you nervous?
Brian: Of course. We set the tone for the whole thing. There was a lot of pressure, but we always do well under pressure and the fans seemed to approve of our performance.
AJ: Some of our dancers were realllly nervous.
Kevin: (giving AJ a look) But they did fine.
Reporter4: How’s dating life treating you these day’s guys?
AJ: It’s been good…REAL good.
Howie: We all have really great girls.
Reporter4: Are they all friends?
Brian: Yeah. That’s how we met some of them. They were friends first.
Reporter5: On that note, Nick, we heard that your girlfriend recently lost her grandmother. How’s she taking it?
Nick: (shocked look on his face) What?!
(Sandra and Liz look at each other)
Liz: (whispering) How did they find out?
Sandra: They are the media…they find out everything.
Reporter5: Her grandmother died the morning of the awards ceremony. You didn’t know about it?
Brian: That’s too personal. Next question please.
(The press conference ends and the guys go back to the hotel)
Nick: (pacing around the room) Why didn’t I know about this?
Sandra: She didn’t want anyone to know especially you.
Nick: (getting angry) Well why not?
Liz: We don’t know. That’s what she said.
Nick: I can’t believe she wouldn’t tell me. Where is she?
Kevin: Nick I think you got to calm down. This isn’t doing anyone any good.
Nick: CALM DOWN?! SHE DIDN’T TELL ME THAT HER GRANDMOTHER DIED. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHY THE HELL NOT! WHERE IS SHE?
Sandra: At the wake.
(Nick picks up the phone and calls Alexa’s cell phone)
Alexa: Hello.
Nick: Put her on…now.
Alexa: I don’t think this is a good time Nick.
Nick: I DON’T CARE. I NEED…I want to see if she’s ok.
(Alexa hands the phone to Elena)
Elena: Hello.
Nick: Hello Elena.
Elena: (trying to be cheerful) Hey Nick, what’s up?
Nick: Is there something you want to tell me?
Elena: Ummm…congratulations?
Nick: Why didn’t you tell me that your grandmother died?
Elena: (Looks at Alexa and Kayla) WHO TOLD HIM?
Nick: I HAD TO HEAR IT FROM A REPORTER ELENA, INSTEAD OF FROM YOU MY GIRLFRIEND!
Brian: Nick, breath buddy. Yelling at Elena isn’t going to help her right now.
Nick: SHUT UP BRIAN!
Brian: Ok then.
Nick: (back into the phone) ANSWER ME!
Elena: What do you want me to say Nick?
Nick: I want you to tell me why you didn’t tell me. So…why?
Elena: (trying to hold back tears) I don’t need this right now, can we talk when I get back.
Nick: I want to know NOW!
Elena: (hands the phone to Alexa and runs away crying)
Alexa: Look Nick you want to know the truth? Her grandmother died the day of the awards ceremony and she didn’t want to ruin your day. Ok you happy now. You can be such and asshole sometimes. (Alexa hangs up on him)
