Chapter 5

(Elena and Kayla go back to Kayla’s place. They are sitting in the living room just staring at the walls) Elena: Call him. Kayla: I can’t. You know I can’t. Elena: They said you could call if it was an emergency. I think this qualifies as an emergency. Kayla: Why should I have him worry about it now? Elena: Because it is bothering you. You NEED to talk to him. Call him! Kayla: Fine. (Picks up the phone and calls Kevin) If I get in trouble it’s your fault! Elena: Fine. Producer: Hello. Kayla: Hi this is Kayla. I need to speak with Kevin…it’s an emergency. Producer: Listen sweet heart missing him is not an emergency. Kayla: That’s not it. I really need to talk to him. (Starts to cry) Producer: You know the rules. You can only talk to him when he calls you not the other way around. Kayla: But this is an emergency. I really need to talk to him. Producer: Sorry, can’t happen. Kayla: Can you give him a message then…(the producers hangs up on her) Damnit. Elena: What happened? Kayla: He hung up on me. What do I do now? Elena: I don’t know. (The next morning, Kayla is cooking breakfast when Elena comes down the stairs) Elena: (yawns) Morning Kay. How you feeling? Kayla: How am I supposed to feel? Elena: I don’t know. Kayla: Right, cause you aren’t pregnant I am. Elena: Sorry. Kayla: (sighs and turns to face Elena) Sorry. I didn’t get much sleep last night. Elena: Morning sickness at night? Kayla: I don’t know. My stomach didn’t feel good all night. I was downing Pepto like it was Sprite! Elena: That bad huh? Kayla: Yeah…great…now I have to pee again. (Goes into the bathroom) Elena: (calling to her) Breakfast looks great Kay. Kayla: Thanks. Elena: (walks over to the fridge and opens the door) Do we have anymore orange juice? (Waits for her to respond) Kayla? Hey Kayla? Kayla: (comes out of the bathroom pale white) Elena: (Turns around to face Kayla) Do we have…(sees her face and closes the fridge door) what happened? Kayla: I’m bleeding. Elena: Ok. Ummm…let’s get you to a doctor.
