The Christmas Sleigh Ponies | |||||||||||
On the northern edges of Ponyland there is a mysterious mountain called Snow Peak. Few ever venture there because the snow is so deep and dangarous. It was rumored, though, that there where magical ponies who were able to live on the mountain. These ponies or beings, or whatever, lived in the snow and spent their days sporting and playing on the very top of the mountain where the cold was the bitterest. No one knew for sure whether they existed until one particular night. This special night was Christmas Eve. Santa Clause had just finished visiting the world of children and now was headed to Ponyland to deliver presents to all the good little ponies. It had been a particularly long night and the reindeer were getting very tired. Just as they reached Snow Peak, the sleigh began sinking. The reindeer were too tired to continue pulling the sleigh. They had to make an emergancy landing on the top of one of the cliffs of Snow Peak. As Santa was getting out of the sleigh to check the raindeer, he thought he saw movement behind one of the many snow drifts. When he looked closer, he saw two pairs of eyes peaking out at him. "Hello, " he said. In response, two unicorns stepped out from behind the snow drift and made their way to meet Santa Clause. The first was blue as the ice on a pond when it first freezes over. He was big and sturdy and moved with a quite assuredness. The other, with a mane as bright as any fire in a warm fire place, almost skipped while she walked and had a gleam of laughter in her eye. "Hello," said the male unicorn. "I am Icycle and this is Candle," he said while nodding at the other unicorn. "Not many people come to visit us up here," stated Candle, tilting her head in curiousity at the oddity of seeing reindeer harnessed to a sled. "Will you stay long?" "Longer than I need to I'm afraid," replide Santa. "My reindeer are too tired to pull the sleigh anymore and I still have to deliver presents to Ponyland before we can go home. There will be a lot of disappointed little ponies tommorrow morning if we don't make it." "Can we help?" asked Icycle. Santa thought for a minute, then said," the only way would be for you to pull the sleigh but there are only two of you." "Oh, don't worry," laughed Candle, " we have lots of friends." With that they both turned and ran off up the mountain. Santa was beginning to worry that he was not going to be able to deliver the presents at all when a rush of wings heralded the arrival of a pegasus. She was followed by another pegasus who floated down as silently and softly as the first snowflake of the year. "Angel and Snowdrift here to save the day!" cried the first pony, ruffleing her feathers in satisfaction. "Oh, your such a drama queen, Angel," said the white pegasus. Snowdrift turned to Santa,"we here you are in need of assistance." Before Santa had the chance to answer, Icycle and Candle arrived leading four other ponies who seemed to be haveing the time of their live. A silver unicorn and a pink earh pony were merrily singing their happiness. They were interrupted by two other ponies who burst over the hill apparently in the middle of a snow fight. The male pony came to a skidding halt, just barely missing running over the pink pony. He blushed when she looked at him. His blush was turned into suprise when the other snow fighting pony, his twin sister, threw a snow ball at the side of his face. "All right, settle down," said Icycle, apparently the leader of this little band, "This is Santa Clause and he needs our help to pull his sleigh." "Santa this is Silver Bell and Carol," he said while pointing to the unicorn and then the pink earth pony. "And these two rascals are Mistletoe and Holly." Mistletoe and Holly suddenly stood at attention and tried to put on innocent faces but didn't quite succeed. Eventually, the reindeer were able to be unharrnessed and the ponies slipped into their places in front of the sleigh. Santa sat in the sleigh and thought,"well this will be interesting." When everyone was ready, he picked up the reigns and called, "On Candle, on Icycle, on Angel and Snowdrift. On Silver bell, on Carol, on Holly and Mistletoe." The sleigh lifted and they were on their way! All the little ponies got their presents that night. And the Snow Peak ponies loved pulling Santa's sleight so much that they agreed to do it every year so the reindeer could rest. Eventually they became known at the Christmas Sleigh Ponies and every little pony in ponyland would stay up Christmas Eve to see if they could hear their hooves on the roof. The End |
