Samhain- also called Samhaine, All Hallows Eve and Halloween.  Samhain is most usually pronounced "Sow"ain"  It marks the beginning and the end of the Wheel of the year.  Samhain is the festival of the dead.  It is the beginning of the new and a time when the veil between the worlds is thin.  

Yule- also called Winter Solstice, and Christmas.  This is the shortest day and the longest night. The actual date varies from year to year.  It is associated with the rebirth and blessings of the sun. A time of letting go of the past. A time of reflection.

Imbolc- also called Imbolg, Oimelc, Festival of the Bride, Candlemas, and Festival of Bridgit.  It brings the awakening of the life force of the earth, and the days grow longer. It is a good time to start new projects.

Oestara- also called Oestre, Eostar, the Spring Equinox.  Is celebrated as a spring festival.  It is the time of balance when the day and night are equal. It is a time when we seek balance in ourselves and throw out the old and take on the new.  A time also for Initiation.

Beltane- also called May Day, Beltan, Bealtaine, and Walpurgisnacht.  This time is also a day when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead are thin. But it is a time when the spirits are more mischievous.  A time of fertility, handfasting and romance.

Litha- Also called The Summer Solstice.  It is the longest day and the shortest night of the year.  It is a time for celebration but also a time for reflection. Many groups choosevto rise at dawn and greet the sun on it's day of greatest power.

Lammas- also called Lughnasadh, Loaf-Mass, and Lughnassed.  Lammas is the festival of the dying and rising of the god. A time of the first harvest. 

Madron- also called Modorn, The Autumn Equinox,Mabon, and Harvest Festival.  A time of balance when the day and the night are equal. It is a time when we seek balance within ourselves. It is the feast of the healer, of justice and the release of prisoners. A time of forgiveness for others but also for yourself.
