Welcome to the official webpage of Southrink located on south campus at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Southrink was offically first open for roller hockey in the fall of 1994. The rink replaced a tennis court, which was adjacent to the Jesse Owens South Recreation Center on East 11th Avenue (between Highland and Worthington Avenues) across from Stradley Dormitory. Southrink has a hockey shapped court on a tennis-court-like-surface with fences around the perimiter of the rink ranging from 20 to 30 feet in height. The only bad aspects of Southrink is the slight slope from one side of the rink to the other and the fact that the boards are made of fence causing sticks and even skates to often become stuck in the Southrink boards. In the spring of 2002, a second rink was built this time on the north side of campus. This rink has been dubbed "Northrink." Northrink is located on north campus along Curl Drive just west of Donotos Pizza on North High Street (between Lane and Woodruff Avenues). Northrink is essentially Southrink done right. Northrink's boards are made of strong plastic instead of using fence, which make it a lot easier to effectively use the boards. Northrink was constucted on a flat surface, which created no unfair advantages that Southrink possesed. Virtually the only thing that Northrink is lacking, is a surface as smooth as Southrink. |
