World History Part 1
For Meagan's seventh grade year (2004-2005), we will be covering world history from ancient times through the Renaissance.  I had originally planned on using Sonlight Curriculum's World History Core program but wanted to stretch the program out to last for two years and also to incorporate the four volumes of The Story of the World by Bauer.  I went ahead and put together a plan integrating those resources. Sonlight then announced that this year they would be releasing a two year world history program utilizing the Bauer books.  So, my personal plan that you see below is definitely subject to change once I see the SL Instructor's Guide.

Also, I plan to use Hakim's 3 volumes of
The Story of Science.  But, the books have not yet been released.  So, even though I have them listed below, I don't have corresponding page numbers yet.  I've heard that the first book is due to be released in late August.

We will read the readers and read-alouds every day.  I purposely didn't go too far out of my way to schedule a read-aloud for each week.  I'm thinking that on the weeks that there isn't a read-aloud scheduled, that we will have plenty of history to read anyway. On Mondays and Wednesdays I will read the SOTW and the Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Meagan will read the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia and outline what she's read using the
Well Trained Mind format.  She will also do the mapping assignments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We will add in the supplemental reading whenever appropriate. And, she will continue to write book summaries for each of the books we read.

In addition to the history, Meagan will be doing Apologia's General Science Program.  We will utilize Sonlight's Language Arts program and include
Learn to Write the Novel Way.  Meagan would love to be a published author and is very excited about using this book.  She'll continue working through the Singapore Math program.  She is also learning Spanish and uses the Artistic Pursuits art materials.
