World History Part 2
For Meagan's eighth grade year (2005-2006), we will be continuing world history and covering the Renaissance through the end of the Twentieth Century.  Again, I had planned on using Sonlight Curriculum's World History Core program but the Instructor's Guide won't be available til mid-July.  Since I had hoped to begin in early July, I went ahead and put together my own plan. I have orderd the Sonlight IG, so again, my personal plan that you see below is definitely subject to change once I see the SL Instructor's Guide.

Also, since the
Story of the World Volume 4 is not available yet I won't be able to fill in all the details of my schedule until I receive it and can go through it..

I have decided that our focus this year will be more on math and science so I'm not adding in as many history supplements as I have in the past. I didn't  schedule a read-aloud for each week.  We will continue with the history schedule that we used for World History Part 1: On Mondays and Wednesdays I will read the SOTW and the Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Meagan will read the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia and outline what she's read using the
Well Trained Mind format.  She will also do the mapping assignments on Tuesdays and Thursdays and also work on her timeline.  We will add in the supplemental reading whenever appropriate. And, she will continue to write book summaries for each of the books we read. I am also scheduling writing assignments for each of the SOTW chapters

The Apologia Science was
NOT a good match for us so we are switching science programs. This year we will do Singapore Interactive Science. My plan is to have Meagan do both books 1 and 2 from summer of 2005 through summer of 2006. Some of it will be review but some of it will fill in the gaps left from Apologia. This should allow Meagan to be ready to start the "O"  levels (biology, physics, chemistry) of Singapore Science in 9th grade.

Again, we will utilize Sonlight's  Language Arts program even though at this point I'm not sure what it will include. It's a new Core so there are no details yet

For math, Meagan will use Singapore NEM 1. This starts her in on the "Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2" sequence.

Meagan will also do Runkle Geography and Rosetta Stone Japanese. She has also decided that she is ready to learn to type correctly rather than "hunt and peck". So, I got her Typing Instructor Deluxe that she is enjoying and will use on a daily basis.

Meagan received a guitar for Christmas and has decided that she wants to make a commitment to practicing every day, so that will also be added to her schedule.
