Lady Liberty Cried
9/11/2001
No one can count the cost
When flesh and blood is
lost
Made of copper and stone
She stood out there alone
She yearned to breathe free
Welcoming huddled masses
If she was human she could
see
And try to understand their
trespasses
A symbol of democracy and
hope
A tragedy we stuggle to
cope
We recounted the events no one
knows why
We just move on and try
Destruction swiped its cruel
hand
Made us question our free
land
Though the spirit of freedom
seemed to have died
She still stood as our
guide
Through the smoke and
debris
She still made the way wide
A sight we never hoped to
see
Lady Liberty cried.
