The Quilt
We
weave a quilt that makes our life
Through night and day success and strife
The
threads we once sold
Return
to us when we're old
The
seams careful hands sewn in lines
Appear
ripped fragments of our times
With
patches many tears
Make
this garment thin and bare
Careful eyes see where it's been
Albeit
ragged torn and thin
Follow
stitches see where it goes
Scarred and battered its wisdom we know
The
pattern leads to an end
The
time when we complete the mend
Turn
it over find a cloth to wear
Crawl
right in a shroud to bear
A
patchwork bright and bold
Shows
the many years we are old
As the
procession fades past
Our
handiwork is done at last
The
quilt on display can we find
Until
God seals the tomb of our mind
Until
that day has come to pass
When
our soul is free at last.
