Hongyi Wang
In 1991 how could that freshman imagine such a path in the amazing science of chemistry?

He earned PhD degree in 1999 from
Lanzhou University, University of Science and technology of China and State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry. The research covered  new reactions, reaction mechanisms and stereochemistry of coenzyme NADH models.

From 2000 to 2002 he received postdoctoral training in University of Florida. The experience opened the door into the world of biochemistry, enzymology and molecular biology.

In 2002 he joined
VisiGen Biotechnologies, established a chemistry laboroatory and has been working there as a senior research scientist. Here scientific disciplines are  integrated in the effort of developement of novel DNA sequencing technology.

He has extensive expertise in the following: multi-step organic synthesis, enzymatic synthesis, nucleoside, nucleotide, oligonucleotide and nucleic acids chemistry, reaction kinetics and mechanistic study, electron transfer and radical chemistry, photochemistry, stable and radioactive isotope labeling, enzyme inhibitor design and synthesis, bioconjugation, click chemistry applications, chemical information, scientific patenting, etc.

He has enjoyed the following too:  enzyme cloning and expression, fluorescence chemistry, single molecule chemistry, etc.

He publishes in the following: J. Org. Chem., J. Chem. Res., J. Chem. Soc. Perkin 2, Tetrahedron Lett., J. Chin. Chem. Soc., etc. He has patent applications at USPTO and PAT.

He was elected to
Sigma Xi membership in 2005 and has been a member of American Chemical Society since 2000. He attends local chemical education events and serves as a reviewer for Journal of Education. He writes book reviews in the fields of interest.
