This world premiere of Thatcher's profoundly moving contemporary drama was specially commissioned; it is the first product of OSF's play development program.

The play is a triupmhant testament to the immense resiliency of the human spirit, told in the earthy poetry of the Delta.

The Cure at Troy

When the Greeks sailed to Troy, they marooned Philoctetes on a lonely island because he suffered an aganizing and foul-smelling snakebite. Now, with the siege of Troy in its tenth year, they learn that they cannot win the war without his aid. To enbtice him back, they promise companionship and healing. But can a man used to loneliness and endless pain endure the casual hurts that humans inflict upon each other every day? Heaney based his new play on Philoctetes by sophocles.
