Gore |
Bush |
Supports
Affirmative Action Supports allowing
homosexuals to openly serve in the military Supports tougher hate crime
legislation, including coverage for sexual orientation Supports the Employee
Non-Discrimination Act which would prohibit termination
of an employee based on sexual orientation |
Opposes
quotas and racial preferences Opposes
same-sex marriage Opposes Hate Crime Laws Opposes Employee Non-Discrimination
Act |
What do you think about affirmative action,
gay rights, and hate crime laws? These three subjects are getting
a lot of attention these days. Click
here post your message. In deciding who to vote for, this
should be a no-brainer if you are a member of the above groups,
or know anyone who is a member of the above groups. On the issue
of hate crimes, instituting hate crime laws is a must, and it is
shocking that George W. Bush doesn’t see the necessity of
these laws with the attacks on Jewish groups, minorities,
immigrants, and gays on the rise here in the U.S. Opponents of
hate crime laws say we are thought policing, but say that to the
family of James Byrd in Texas after being decapitated while
dragged from a pick up truck, and only because of the color of
his skin. The thing is, society, in the past has condoned
violence on these above groups in one form or another. There are
people who believe they have justification to harm you simply
because of who you are. When you take away that justification, or
the societal “approval” of these acts, then you stop
people from believing it’s okay to go out there and commit
them. For example, “fag bashing” is a common sport in a
lot of places. Hate crime laws save lives.
Gore |
Bush |
Opposed
to school vouchers. He thinks they drain money from the
public school system, and would provide federal funding-
$115 billion for new school construction. Supports teacher merit pay Has expanded Head Start as Vice Prez
and planned to hire 100,000 teachers to reduce
elementary-school class size |
Believes
it is up to the state to enact vouchers, and would allow
these if individual states agree. Would
triple federal funding for “character
education” Supports further development of
charter schools by investing $300 million in a charter
school homestead fund |
What do you think of school vouchers? Do you
agree with Bush or Gore? It comes down to who has more of a
belief in the system and who has the better capacity to improve
it. Click

HEALTH CARE
Insurance, Social Security (for our parents
in about 10-15 years, and us, in 35 years)
Gore |
Bush |
Has
a plan to cover all uninsured children in the US and to
provide additional benefits to seniors and other groups Supports using part of the federal
budget surplus to offer a voluntary prescription drug
benefit for Medicare beneficiaries. Supports Patient Bill of Rights Supports a lock box on payroll taxes
to prohibit borrowing against the Social Security trust
fund |
Has
currently, no plan to assist uninsured children. Supports private sector based
prescription drug benefits for Medicaire beneficiaries Supports medical savings accounts. Supports a limited Patient Bill of
Rights Opposes Direct Government investment
of Social Security funds in the stock market |
What do you think about Health Care? Do you
think the US should adopt universal coverage, or leave it in the
hands of private funders? Bush favors fewer changes than Gore,
and his plan is less expensive, costing $35 billion over five
years versus Gore’s $176 billion over ten years. The whole
answer here is, if you like the current system, then cool, Bush
is your man, if you don’t then vote for Gore. However,
Gore’s plan does involve more government control, and you
have to decide whether or not that is a bad thing.

This is a tough one. America’s role is
changing, and our response to crisis in the Middle East, the
Balkans, Rwanda, or anywhere else in the world depends on a
President who has a firm grasp on the issues without the need of
personal advisers. Gore’s role as VP has helped him have a
better running start at this than Bush, who doesn’t need as
much foreign policy experience to run Texas. However, being
Governor of Arkansas doesn’t need much foreign policy
experience either, and Clinton handled things. To make a choice
on this issue, the candidates’ backgrounds and prior
experience play a major role. We don’ t need a prez training
on the job for this one, we need someone that knows already how
to handle issues where our national security and the lives of
Americans abroad depend are at stake. Just thinking of the World
Trade Center, the Cole disaster, and the bombing of American
embassies in Kenya and Tanzania- who do you want to have in your
corner when these threats loom large-Al or George? What do you
