11:10 Cynthia Lawson, President, called the meeting to order.
- Welcome greeting
- Lead the Round Robin Introduction with a brief description of WA Chapter Tradition, Happy Bucks. It was the idea of Jayne Mickas, one of the founders of WA Chapter
Minutes: Yukiko Howell, Recording Secretary, handed out copies of the minutes from 5/10/03 meeting. She noted that past three months did not have the minutes because June was Bellingham Air Fest, July was Arlington Air Show, and August was Summer Social at Gaylen Wright.
11:37 Treasurer Report: Donna Plotz, Treasurer
- Donna provided current finance report. $2,034.07 as of 9/13/03. She emphasized that two major income sources were the rebate for Convention Attendance ($630.00) and Membership Recruitment ($122.00).
- Jana Young, Director, commented that the chapter must discuss how the money should be used. The discussion was that we wanted to hand out the scholarship at the convention and that we possibly would include the free conference registration that the chapter has for the recipient to use- discussion was that we would possibly find a free ride for the recipient as well! The majority of meeting attendees agreed informally, but nothing was decided formally.

11:40 Outreach Committee: Cynthia Lawson, President, for Kit Warfield^ Chair
- Cynthia read Kit's email:
The Whatcom Country Library is planning programs for celebrating the Century of Flight for school children in December and contacted Kit through Flight Simulator connections not WIAI. Kit will follow up and inform detailed information later.
- Kit works at the Aviator's Store three days a week (Mo. Tu. Wed, 9-4) and offered to put up flyers for the chapter in the store.
11:41 Fundraising: Jayne Mickas, Chair
- Inflatable airplane, $10.00, from Fred Meyer was a big success at the Bellingham Air Fest.
- The profit from the Bellingham Air Fest was $74.00.
- Jayne has a record of donors from the Bellingham Air Fest.
- Donna Plotz, Treasurer, responded to Jayne's comments that Donna will create a donor letter to be made available to all members to use when soliciting donations for the organization.
- Airplane pin sale profit is about $200 so far.
- Chocolate airplane price went up from $.50 to $.75. Jayne noted that there is another kind of chocolate airplane on a stick.
- Gaylen Wright is working on flight simulator visit at Flight Safety Bpeing.
- Cynthia Lawson showed us her airplane bracelet and suggested that it can be another fund raiser. She added Boeing has also airplane bracelet at the Boeing store.
- Pampered Chef Kitchen Show Fundraising Party: Rochelle Oslick volunteered to host again at her residence in Bellevue. November Chapter Meeting date, 11/8/03, will be Pampered Chef Kitchen Show Fundraising Party.
- Cynthia Lawson told us about a stained glass sun catcher for windows in the shape of an airplane. According to her, it is_pretty but unfortunately it is breakable.
Speaker Forum Committee: Gaylen Wright, Chair
- It is in progress. Gaylen wrote letters to a couple of candidates. They are FAA Medical Examiner and FAA Safety Director. Laina Reeves volunteered to check whether WA Pilots Association will be interested in attending the speaker forum with us, WIAI.
- Gaylen told us the difficulty of communicating with Flight Safety Boeing regarding the use of simulator for possible fundraising. Jayne Mickas volunteered to help Gaylen.

Networking Event 2003: Donna Plotz
- Donna provided 2-page planning proposal. Donna commented that this idea was the result of attending the last conference in Cincinnati.
- A good discussion took place among attendees. The consensus was to coordinate with Elissa Lines, the Museum of Flight (206-764-5733 elines@museumofflight.org ), "Women Fly" program in March. WA chapter will be cosponsor and will play a large part of the program.
- Next year's WIAI conference is March 11, 12, 13. The Women Fly program is in March as well and we are hoping for no conflict with the national conference date.
12:35 Scholarship Committee: Sissi Smithhart, V.P. Chair (absent)
Donna Plotz provided a handout from Sissy. This will be an agenda item at the next meeting.
Announcements
- Leslie Barstow, Correspondence Secretary, will attend the Oregon International Air Show (www.oregonairshow.com ) at Hillsboro, OR on 9/20, 21. She offered to take airplane chocolates, airplane pins, airplane pens, and airplane inflatable toys to solicit donations on behalf of WA chapter.
- Leslie Barstow, Correspondence Secretary, announced Embry-Riddle has a new position, Assistant Center Director to the entire center (located in Renton, WA. If you are interested in the position or you know somebody who is interested, please contact Richard Glover Richard.glover@erau.edu 425-226-2484
- Donna Plotz inquired who is in charge of WA chapter archives. The answer is VP, Sissi Smithhart. And all members are encouraged to turn in materials for each meeting.
- Donna Plotz suggested visiting two schools before year end. The presentation will be combined with 100 years anniversary of flight. Leslie Barstow and Jana Young volunteered to check elementary schools. Jana young reminded Yukiko Howell that two binders that Yukiko received from Jana in the past contain elementary level aviation hands-on activities.
