- A circle is a magickal prepared are where many Wiccans' celebrate the turning of the Wheel. What what I will be discussing here is what I see of a circle... simply my point of view and no final word. Ok... the circle is wear I perform my rituals/spells within and were I worship my many gods/goddesses. Before I perform a circle casting, I simply wash myself... not necessarily do you need to take a bath or shower, just simply wipe your face, hands, and if you can... legs. It is best to take a bath... or atleast a shower, but isn't necessary to perform the circle casting. When you are ready and have washed away all of that negativity... you may begin! You may perform your rituals or spells with clothes... some choose to have specific clothes or robes only when performing a ritual or spell... or you may perform nude... also known as skyclad. When you have choosen what you will be wearing to perform the casting, move to the specific area which you will be casting around. Most circles are casted around the altar, but doesn't necessarily need to be around the altar. I am not able to cast around my altar because it is in a space where I can't walk around, so just cast it around the area you will be in... an area big enough to walk around.
How to Cast a Circle
- Finally, when I am ready to cast apon my circle, I first light the candles which will be used in performing the specific need. I also set afire my incense. (- Don't exactly light them on fire, I just light the tip and after about 2-5 seconds, blow out the flame, leaving a smoking sensation from the incense -). Then I center and ground myself.
After I have centered and grounded myself... I call apon the Lord and the Lady to join the circle. Do with this reverence and respect as you would to a small baby child. Now, remember, these are deties... they are to be invited respectivly, not comanded! A simple invocation for them to attend the circle is:
"Lady of the night, MIstress of the Day, Please hear the call of your son/daughter (or simply your magickal name) Silvery Moon Women, watch as I Lay this Circle of Power. Great Hunter, Father, Son, and Lover Hear my call if you will, Laughing Man, Eternal Man watch over my circle!"
Now, you have invited your deties in. Take a moment to feel Their presence... Smile and the Lady's Warmth... the Lord's being. These are your deties and are indeed here for you!
Now, before you use the elements to cast your circle... take your athame, or wand, or finger and point to the ground with your index finger. Go around with your index finger and make a circle. As you go around creating a circle... imagine an eletric blue/purple light going around as you create a circle. As you are doing this, and yes it is alot to do at once, say the following:
"Be thou Cast Circle. As I walk thy boundries of the Circle, So do hold my power. Set me apart of the world of man, Make me apart from the relam of spirit. Hold me between the worlds as I work my magick."
You will first Cast the Cirlce with Fire and Air, elements of South and East. A red candle is for Fire and an incent is for Air. LIght the red candle which is representing Fire and walk around the circle desoil (clockwise) three times, make sure as you walk to not walk to fast so your flame of your candle burns out, and after you have walked the third time... set the red candle apon your altar. Then take the incent and walk around the circle three times desoil, swaying the smoke afuming out of your incent. When you are done, place the incent apon your altar. The, you will be using Water and Salt, elements of West and North. Take your bowl of water and walk around the circle three times deosil. As you walk along the circle, sprinkle drips of water around as you go. When you have finished... place the bowl on the altar. Then take the bowl of salt and go around the circle three times desoil. As you go around with the salt, sprinkle pinches of salt as you walk. After you finish, place the salt apon your altar.
When you finish... say thw following inscript:
"Spirit and guardian of the (direction) I do call you to my Circle. Do thou watch from the (direction) and keep me safe. Witness my workings and lend me thy aid thou Gaurdian of the (direction)."
And now you have just casted a circle. Remeber to not go through to circle without cutting a door. To cut a door, just simply take your index finger and make a door shaped figure... if you don't and walk out.... you are weaking the energy. To relese the circle, salute to each direction and thank them... if you have a silver bell, ring it in each direction.
