The Goddess is celebrated by Wiccans during Esbats. Esbats are rituals that are held primarily at the New and Full Moons. They can be held at other times of the month, as well. But it is the Full Moon Esbat that is most important for Wiccans. Wiccans do not worship the Moon. It is a symbol of the Goddess. The Moon is also seen as a mystic source of energy. Wiccans draw energy from the Moon to empower themselves during rituals and in their everyday lives. Witches also need to set asside days specifically to do magickal work or to set the stage for a new endeavor. That is what Esbats are for. You should use the correct phase of teh moon to obtain utlmate results. Full Moon Energy - Banishing unwanted influences, protection magick and divination. New Moon Energy - Personal growth, healing and the blessing of a new project or venture. Waxing Moon Energy (Between New and Full moon) - Attraction magick. Waning Moon Energy (Between Full and New moon) - Banishing, r.ejectiong negative emotions The Dark of the Moon (3 days before teh New moon) - No migick is preformed. Time of meditation and vision questing. Due to the rotation of the earth, there are 13 Full Moons, each carries a traditional name. January - Wolf Moon July - Mead Moon February - Storm Moon August - Wyrt (green plant) Moon March - Chaste Moon September - Barley Moon April - Seed Moon October - Blood moon May - Hare Moon November - Snow Moon June - Dyad (pair) Moon December - Oak Moon A Blue Moon occures when the moon with it's 28-day cycle appears twice within the same calendar month, due to that month's 31-day duration. During a Blue Moon you set specific long tearm goals for yourself and review accomplishments and failures. |
