The Colors of Mabon The Colors of Mabon are vibrant and vivid like the bursts of color that run through the forests. The autumn leaves are thick with red, bronze, orange, yellow, rust and gold. The colors of grapes hanging on the vine turn deep purples, burgundy reds, and yellow-greens. Autumn squashes, gourds and pumpkins peak out from under yellowing broad leaves and when harvested, are seen in farm stands and on front porches with their deep greens, bright yellows and various shades of orange. |
Incense, Herbs, and Woods The scents of Mabon include nutmeg, cloves, and other spices as well as those of fall fruits such as apples. Sandalwood, myrrh, heather, pine, and cedar are good choices for incense. Herbs that are commonly associated with this Sabbat include mace, cinnamon, cloves, cypress, juniper, oakmoss, marigold, ivy, and sage. Woods to use on your fire include pine, apple, and oak. This is the ideal time of year to make your wands and runestaves using hazelwood. |
Symbols of Mabon Fallen colorful Autumn leaves, late Fall fruits, nuts and vegetables, pine cones, acorns, sheaves of wheat and corn, and thistle gone to seed. Take a "faery-wisher" white thistle-seed "poof", and make a wish before blowing it up into the air! The cornucopia, a symbol of harvest, prosperity, and plenty is the epitomy of Mabon symbolism. |
