1 gallon of cider 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 cup orange juice 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. allspice a square of clean cheesecloth 1 rounded Tbls. whole cloves 7 sticks of cinnamon 7 round slices of orange (with rind on) extra cinnamon sticks
Pour the cider into a large pot or crockpot and put on low heat. Stir the brown sugar, orange juice, nutmeg, and allspice into the cider. Place the cinnamon sticks and the whole cloves into the cheesecloth and tie the bundle shut with a clean piece of string. Drop the bag of cheescloth into the cider. Cook until heated through. Add the orange slices about 5 minutes before serving to avoid them becoming overcooked. Serve hot or cold with a cinnamon stick in each mug! |
