Mabon or Fall Equinox


The Fall Equinox or Mabon is a time for thanksgiving, meditation, and introspection.Witches rededicate themselves to the Craft.. Wiccan initiation ceremonies are performed. It is a day when day and night, light and dark, are equal. It is generally known as the feast of the healer and the feast of the release of prisoners, for this is a time of year for setting aside old disputes, grudges and quarrels. It is a time of balance. A time to lay aside unwanted habits and traits and to take on new.

Traditional colors of Mabon are: Red, orange, russet, maroon, brown, and gold.

Traditional activities of Mabon are: Making wine, gathering dried herbs, plants, seeds and seed pods, waliking in the woods, scattering offerings in harvested fields, offering libations to trees, adorning burial siter with leaves, acorns, and pine cones to honor those who have passed over.

The traditional foods of Mabon are: Breads, nuts, apples, pomegranates, and vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, and onions. Goose was the traditional meat. Fish and seafood are also seasonal. Fruit cobblers and fruit wines, and cider are traditional.
