Massage Oils
Making your own massage oil is not only fun, but using it is rewarding as well. You can make it as simple or detailed as you wish. Your first attentions should be directed towards selecting the right carrier or base oils for your essential oil blend. Oil constituents and actions are different. For example, I prefer grape seed oil over sweet almond oil because it is lighter and I tend to break out from some of the heavier oils. Hazelnut oil is more stringent that sweet almond oil or coconut oil. What works for my cosmetic uses, generally do not work for massage uses. My suggestion is to purchase small sample of different oils and get to know how they feel by working with them. The most common oil used is sweet almond oil, providing for absorbency and glide. Other common oils are grape seed, apricot, safflower and sunflower just to name a few. Exotic oils and butters are fun, but contain many constituents however, and can be on the pricey side. There are a few that I really enjoy so they are worth the money. Exotic oils include macadamia nut, kukui nut, mango butter and jojoba. A single or blend of oils can make a great base to add your essential oils to. Once you have your carrier or base oil selected you can add your essential oils. Your massage oil should be stored in dark glass bottle to protect the essential oils and constituents from being degraded from light. Add some mood enhancers such as incense or environmental sounds and the experience will be wonderful for both you and your friend receiving the massage. You can also add wheat germ oil or vitamin E oil to help preserve your massage oil.
