Yule marks the shortest day of the year, and the birth of the God. The altar and home are decorated with mistletoe, holly and evergreens. The Yule log is a blazing, and a Yule tree decorated with garlands of popcorn, cinnamon, and cranberries and bags of fragant spices. The time of Yule is near, and joy is about.
Yule is perhabs the favorite amongst the sabbats. Food is shared between familly and friends, and the gifts of the season are exchanged. There's is something about this time of year that makes everyone feel like a child again.
Herbs associated with Yule: bay, bayberry, blessed thistle, ceda, chamomile, evergreen, frankincense, holly, ivy, juniper, mistletoe, moss, nutmeg, oak, pinecones, rosemary, and sage.
Traditional foods: fruitcakes, nuts, roasted turkey and pork, lamb wool apples, oranges, lemons, latkes, chestnuts, eggnog, and mulled wine. |
