A friend of mine wanted to dress up as the Joker for SFX. He provided most of the costume, but he needed a purple tailcoat to complete the ensemble. Material The customer wanted something satiny and when presented with a palette of fabrics he choose velveted satin. The problem with that choice is that it is a very soft, flowy fabric and I needed something solid for the Jacket to keep its shape. So I fused all the pieces with black woven fusible interfacing (the customer did not want lining either, so the interfacing had to act as a liner). The buttons are covered with the same fabric used for the Jacket. Pattern I used Butterick 3648 view B. Advice It helps to have a boyfriend who is exactly the same size as client. You can adjust everything on him and it fits perfectly on the customer. If you are not so lucky, you might want to invest in a sewing dummy. |
