This dress gave me a few headhaches and to be honest, I wish to make a second version when my budget permits it. Let me explain what went well and what went wrong.

Pattern

For the bustier, I modified a pattern I have (Simplicity 9966). It would probably be simpler to use McCall’s 4492. The back is entirely laced, which mean when I have to wear it, someone has to lace it correctly. Easy to put on you but complicated to take off. Again, someone has to unlace it for me because it’s too hard to do it myself. The result is good but half laced would be better and so would using metal eyelet.

The dress is a real disaster. I have used McCall’s 3663, but modified it alot. I wished to have a different collar because I wanted to wear the dress alone. As a result, the collar doesn’t stay in place and does not satisfy me. I decided to do no zipper or lacing in the back and that is actually perfect. The sleeves, oh my gods! I didn’t modify the sleeves enough so we see the seem inside the sleeve and it looks horrible. I pleated 1/3 of the sleeves so when I wear the ties, it looks natural but the stupid ties never stay in place when I move.

Fabric

The black bustier is made of a suede imitation. The trim is a yellow gold with a celtic design. The dress is a white, light, unknow fabric, very transparent.

Advice

Always think more than once before doing something and don’t change your mind at the last moment. Laced sleeves is not for people who intend to be able to move. White is a horrible colour because it is always transparent.

Necklace

It was made by an artisan in France, Didier Cova, who also runs
The Elven Workshop, a place to find extraordinary jewel.
