Back in 2001, Nancy and I decided to go to the Montreal Pagan Grove Samhain party. We wanted to look good and wear cool costumes. So for myself, I made a reproduction of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Titania costume in the 1999 movie A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Ok, in the end, we just looked out of place, but we hadn’t counted on everyone being dressed as vampires, lust fairies and other gothik themed costumes.

Fabrics

The dress is made of strech white paned velvet. It is decorated to the front with gold cord.

The shoulder cover is made of green woven cotton and the fluffy thing is tulle.

The cape is a sheer flowy pale blue polyester.

The head piece is made of gold lamé fabric. I also bought silk flowers that I spray painted gold and then tacked to the front of the crown.

Pattern

I used Simplicity 9454 and made practically no changes to the original pattern. I did not make the cape as long because I did not want people to step on a train and I didn’t sew little golden flowers to the shoulder piece.

Advice

When sewing flowers to a fabric, make sure you go through the petals and not around them, or they’ll fall. I seems obvious, but I wanted the thread th be as low as possible on the flower and I missed a few.
Front and back views of the costume. I'm always a bit uncomfortable when i wear this costume because the head piece really stands out and I am quite shy.
