The Wiccan Paths Alexandrian Tradition: The Alexandrian Tradition was founded and based upon the teachings of Alex Sanders, in England. Ceremonial Magick and the Kabbalah have been included with the rituals of Gardnerian Wicca. Skyclad is a common practice in ritual. As with other Wicca religions, the duality of Goddess and God is recognized as and the Sabbats and Esbats celebrated. Asatru Tradition: Asatru is a Norse word meaning 'belief in the Gods." This tradition is very ancient with its roots in the historical agricultural Vanir and warrior Aesir tribes of Scandanavia and northern Germany. The main deities are the Goddesses Freya, Frigg, and the Norns while the main Gods are Odin, Thor, and Frey. British Traditional: Influenced heavily by Gardnerian Wicca and Celtic traditions. Covens are co-ed and members train through a degree process. Janet and Stewart Farrar are British Traditionalist witches. The Internatinal Red Garters is British Traditionalist. Calendonii Tradition: Calendonii Tradition is formally known as the Hecatine Tradition, this demonation of the Craft is Scottish in origin and still preserves the unique festivals of the Scots. Ceremonial Witchcraft: Ceremonial Witchcraft is the practice of Magick in the strictest sense. Followers of this Tradition use a great deal of Ceremonial and High Magick and have a high affinity for mental discipline and self knowledge. Many follow the writings of Aleister Crowley, and some also perform deatiled rituals with Egyptian Magick and/or Qabbalistic Magick. Also many followers of this Tradition do not believe in deity (in the common sense of the word), but they believe that they are part of their own psyche. Celtic Wicca: Is based upon old Celtic/Druidic practices mixed together, and ritual Gardnerian design. The emphasis is based heavily upon the Celtic deities, the elements, nature, the Magick of trees, the Ancient Ones, and have a great respect for faery folk and the importance of traditional Celtic values as honor, courage, truth, strength, wisdom and eloquence. Chaos Magick: Chaos Magick is a post modern approach to Magick. It originated from the work of Austin Osman Spare, a magician and artist from the first half of the century who developed a highly creative and individual approach to magick. Covens of this tradition welcome non-initiated 'guests' at certain meetings. Dianic Tradition: Is a tradition that worships the Goddess as Diana as the central deity ad usually excludes the worship of the God. Female leadership is encouraged, though male members are allowed in some covens. Rituals are either skyclad or robed. There are also some covens which are female exclusive and follow a Dianic Feminist Wicce. This Tradition is NOT a man hating or lesbian serparist (as some are lead to believe), it is the practice of a concept of a place that is devoted to what makes a woman a woman. It is a Tradition where women can be women. Draconic Tradition: Draconic Tradition is Magick that is taught to humans by the Dragons. This Tradition believes that the deceased are 'deceased' and that there should be no altering that. Their rituals are usually done skyclad. Druid Tradition: Druid Traditions ahve been passed down orally throughtout the ages. There is some controversy as to whether or not the Ancient Druids performed human sacrifices, some do say it is a myth. Modern Druids celebrate the 8 Sabbats that many Pagans do, and many also attend festivities in a replica of Stonehenge located in the state of Washington in the United States. Eclectic Wicca: Eclectic Wicca is basically a loosely based tradition which uses any practices of other paths and incorporates them into their own path. It is now quite a common and popular form of Wicca, as the followers use what works best for them regardless of its source. Erisian Tradition or Discordia: Is a philosphy which believes that the universe is uncertain and that the natural laws are not everywhere and constant. Eris is the Goddess of Chaos. Discordia was rediscovered in the 1960's by Californians Kerry Thornley and Gregory Hill, who published a book called Principia Discordia on their experiences. The Tradition also involves humor in its rituals. Similarly Englishman, Austin Osman Spare, often called the father of chaos magick, took chaos to a more scientific plateau. Faery Magick: Faery Tradition focuses on the Fay mythology. The legends and various customs of the 'little people' have been passed down throughout generations. Most of the mythology from the English and the Celtics. This Tradition has quite some beautiful rituals, and no metal is allowed in the circle due to it may scare away the faery folk. This Tradition was started by Victor Anderson and Gwyddion Penderwen, whom are NOT Wiccan but they consider themselves Faery Witches. Their practice, tools, rituals and spells are quite simple. Gardnerian Tradition: The Gardnerian Tradition is one of the first traditions i nwitchcraft to emerge into the public eye during the 1950's. The teachings are based upon the works of Dr. Gerald Gardner who researched who researched much of the history of the Craft and added them to his famous Book of Shadows. Many traditions used from his Book of Shadows, in a modified form, as a basis for ritual practice.
