Tradition or Trad:
A term used by Neopagan and other Witches to refer to the exact distinctions between each body of organized sectarian beliefs and practices, thus some groups refer to themselves as Manx Traditional Witchcraft, Scottish Trad, English Traditional, Continental, German, etc. The assumption or claim is usually that each “tradition” represents several centuries’ worth of an organized system of witchcraft, though in point of fact the overwhelming majority of trads can be easily proven to be less than thirty years old. The term, however, seems to be evolving to mean just a sect or flavour of modern Paganism, with no implied claims of antiquity. The traditions are the sundry "schools" of Witchcraft and/or Wicca. Examples include Fairie or Faery Tradition- one of the many Celtic Traditions and the Arthurian Tradition. Each Tradition has a different outlook, even if only a slight one, and view of God(s) and Goddess (ess).

The High Traditions are a council of Wiccan/Pagan leaders in America. Evidently, if you are not recognized by the "High Trads." you are not actually a Wiccan/Pagan. I will supply no further comment. But I will, the afore-mentioned statements of legality...I shall recite Principle #9 of the 'Principles of Wiccan/Pagan Belief' adopted in 1974 by the American Council: "Calling oneself 'Witch' does not make a Witch- but neither does heredity itself nor the collecting of titles, degrees and initiations. A Witch seeks to control the forces within him/herself that makes life possible in order to live wisely and well without harm to others and harmony with Nature." (again, no applause please)
