The Basic Pentacle The pentacle is a  five-pointed star with one point upwards surrounded by a circle. It is one of  the most important symbols in Wiccan beliefs. It is a sigil: a symbol connected to a set of ideas. Its meaning can be very personal. Its significance is compared to that of the cross to the Christians, and the six-pointed star to Judaism. Pentacles are frequently used in  Wiccan rituals. They are usually inscribed on earth or earthen material, or metal such as copper or silver. The pentacle is used in the casting of  circles, drawing up ground energy, and to prevent evil influences from interfering with the ritual. It also serves as an amulet, talisman, or meditation tool.
