Better You Go
02 Oct 2000
I turned to you, called you friend
and you stole the whisper from my heart
that yearning became reality.
I fight this dream.
You call me incredible
dancing dreams that reality must crush
and I struggle
not to see forever in your smile.
Hard lives lived
and we know much of pain
wrought its havoc with biting accuracy
so we cling together.
Yet, I know you must dismiss this
for caring hearts are a bondage
you are not ready to claim.
One gentle night of sweet hope
before reality intrudes upon our fortress
built on the fragile moorings
of kindred spirits.
Go, now.
Leave this vulnerable soul
to lay hands on another’s goodness
for I must find no peace in your arms
that could only cause pain.
Your confident strength would crush
the frail heart that beats in this chest
and maim this frightened child.
Better you go
before I find forever in your eyes.
