Not Afraid
21 Apr 2000
Building the echoes of my future memories
Haunted less by the demons of failure
I glimpse the corridors of wisdom
That my journeying feet shall know
And the harrowing feats of courage
That life shall demand.
I am not afraid.
Pit my skill against adversity
Throw my talent in the ring
And you shall witness a million triumphs
Lived large in this small life.
All I ask is to be goodness inherent
Gentle dawn to the newborn day
Mothers milk to wild creatures
Muse to someone’s great art.
And, when that heart I find
That teaches strong compassion
I shall lay down my arms
And embrace vulnerability,
And shall not be afraid.
Capture these joyous thoughts on vellum
To render pictures and sounds to the future
Of all I strive to create.
And, when darkness threatens with thunder
Crashing disaster and discord all around
I will laugh out load with the gods
And dance to the tumbling waters
And I will not be afraid.
