Whisper your apologetic attraction
with drunken carelessness
and I am left
being responsible.
Care I take for your relationship
which you care not to destroy
yet risk anyway.
And, if I were any other than I am
I would ignore the commitment
and accept your advances;
I would gladly kiss those lips
and allow you to teach me the ways
of desire.
Yet, I must call us careful
to protect what you have built.
