Silence

03.08.99

Crystalize this feeling, sharp & jagged,
that cuts me each time I move.
As I move, tentative step and tenuous hold,
I grasp any stable thought that crosses my mind
to give me balance as I negotiate
each trecherous turn.
Share with me some thing, now;
share with me anything.
You bundle your emotions,
aloof stance and guarded carelessness,
as if you fear letting me see
anything.
You say that you protect me,
gentle tread through my tortured heart,
tender touch to this trembling trust,
so you move in minute minutes.
Yet, I say, you must fear.
As we tred this new trail,
building this frail friendship,
and wanting to know more,
you give nothing of consequence
that I could not gain from another
in money and time.
Share with me, now,
some emotion, some shred of need,
to tell me that you find value
in what we build.
Evaluating these sharp emotions
that cut and tear my heart --
you keep your silence.
