God’s Tears
12 Sep 2000
Thundering rain and this inky night;
questions scroll down windows
in watery hieroglyphics
that prod the answers
from some primordial memory of the soul.
Angry growling of God
broken by the jagged javelin of light
and accompanied by the staccato of HIS tears,
weeping for this lost world.
Born in glorious clap of thought
draped in the finery
of verdant hills and flower necklaces
hats of clouds and dark, fecund earth;
now an old woman.
Worn down by the disease called MAN,
polluted body full of poisons and garbage
dumped into her bloodstream
and buried in her bosom.
Screaming her wrath in volcanoes and quakes
she reminds these fragile humans
of her strength
and her longevity.
Crashing moans like ocean waves
wash over the ears
and provide the comforting thrumming
of God’s heart
and reminds us
that we are alive.
