This is St Luke's Church in Farnworth, Cheshire. Farnworth is part of Widnes, which is my home town, and which is mostly a dump. However, there are areas of beauty, and to my mind this church is an underrated gem. The red Cheshire sandstone tower dates from the early 1300s.Unfortunately the church has to be locked most of the time, but attending a service is well worth it.

Below is the chancel of Farnworth church. The handsome oak-beamed roof dates from the 1440s, and the window is admittedly Victorian but I still find it a very handsome one. This church manages to convey a sense of antiquity, and I am not biased when I say that I find it one of the handsomest that I have visited.
