The famous Norman church of Hales, Norfolk. As you may have guessed, I am something of a Norfolk enthusiast, having lived there and been deeply appreciative of its wealth of churches. This one is a minimalist little number, but gives the feeling that time has stopped in its tracks here. There is not much of the 21st century to be had here, and you can't even hear the ubiquitous car - only birdsong and wildlife. Maybe this is selfish but I would deeply love to have a time of spiritual communion by myself, by candlelight, in such an evocative and evidently medieval church as this.
This is the minimalist interior of Hales church. When I was there a trapped bee detracted from the tranquility inside, but added to the rustic charm of the whole. There are 14th century wallpaintings and a 15th century screen to be looked at too.
