LARRY LAGER'S DEFEAT FAVORED F.H. LACROSSE IN REGULAR SEASON OPENER

GALESBURG, MI - On a brisk blue-gray Thursday evening at Eye of the Steiger Field, while most were waiting for the final game of NHL playoffs to begin, the WiffleWars regular season kicked-off with a Larry Lager's (1-0) 6-0 romping of the heavily favored and Memorial Day champs, Forest Hills Lacrosse (0-1).  After an average start at the plate during the Memorial Day tournament Larry Lager's, Josh Steiger proved his dominance once again with 2 doubles and 2 three-run homers, in the first and fourth innings of play.  The second of the two being over the center field fence making it, arguably, the longest bomb of the year.  Steiger went 4 for 6 to top off a defensive performance that can only be described by the Incubus song 'Stellar'.  “I’m just glad we pulled off the win.” Says an always-modest Josh Steiger.  “It’s early still though, anything can happen.”   Larry Lager pitcher, Matt Lapinski, didn't fair as well as Steiger from the batter's box, going 1 for 6, but made up for it on the mound.  Lapinski made his way to the hill John Rocker-style and continued his stunning pitching.  Facing merely 10 batters in his 4th complete game of the year, with 4 strikeouts, 0 walks, and only giving up 2 hits.  Lapinski pitched this complete game earning both the win and the shut out.  "Inconsistency in my pitches has became my consistency" says Lapinski, "but honestly, I owe so much of my success to [Josh] Steiger.  He's the true work-horse of the team."  Lapinski is still nursing a sore left foot, but showed little signs of it on the mound, only on his travels down the first baseline.  Also talk of Steiger's decrepit arm are no more as he looked 100% in his regular season debut.  Forest Hills Lacrosse goes to 0-1 in the regular season with  slugger Matt Sutter going 0 for 8 and teammate Adam "I'm like a bird" Dove going 2 for 5.  The two shared pitching duties, alternating innings, but neither could seem to find the strike zone.  However the loss isn't getting FH Lacrosse’s Adam Dove down, "We started off the Memorial Day tournament with a loss, and came back to win it." As for teammate Matt Sutter he was a little more bitter about the incident. Directed at both Lapinski and Steiger, "I can't believe you beat us, you can't come to my house to watch the [NHL finals] game."  Not only did the Larry Lager's show up, but they were also fed a wonderful meal by Mrs. Sutter.  FH Lacrosse will have the opportunity to redeem themselves as the season continues next week.  A make-up game between the CC Jiggs and Team Marsha is being scheduled.  A special thanks to Brandon Wilkins and Zach Jones for showing up when their teammates' didn't.

Once again the Lager's rely on the valuable pitching of Lapinski (left) and his bag of tricks.
