Lend Me a Pup
I will lend to you for awhile, a pup, God said,
For you to love her while she lives and mourn for her when she's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three
But will you, 'till I call her back, take care of her for me.

She'll bring her charms to gladden you and (should her stay be brief)
you'll always have her memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowds life's land I have chosen you
Now will you give her all your love
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take my Pup back again.

I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will be Done,"
For all the joys this Pup will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness we'll love her while we may
And for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay!
But should you call her back much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.

If, by our love, we've managed, your wishes to achieve!
In memory of her we loved, to help us while we grieve,
When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another Pup and love her all her life.

Gracie, the wonder dog
Here we are with Gracie on our swing.  Gracie thinks she is one of the girls and wants to do everything we do.
Playing dress up.  Gracie is queen for the day.
Recharging those batteries for more fun.
Gracie's Story
Gracie was a pup (just under a year of age) that Hannah and Mommy found in a parking lot in town.  They picked her up with the intentions of giving her to our Grandparents who had recently lost their dog, but they did not want such a large dog so we decided to keep her.  The first few months with her were a bit rough.  Being a typical puppy she chewed up some of our toys, the garden hose, and the window screens, just to name a few items; but she has since settled down; as have Mom and Dad's blood pressure.  We have a lot of fun playing with Gracie.  She loves to play fetch and dress up.  In fact, she enjoys doing anything we want to do because she loves being with us.  How did she come by the nickname "wonder dog"?  We call her wonder dog because she can jump our six-foot fence when we are not playing with her and take off looking for other children to play with; thus, we frequently "wonder" where she is.
