Pac-Man Tips & Tricks

First, patterns are the best way to keep going for a long time in Pac-Man; however, there will be times when you'll mess up your pattern. Also, some people aren't able to learn patterns or they don't want to for whatever reason. That's when these other tips & tricks will come in handy.

When you go up through the places marked in the picture, the ghosts won't be able to follow you when they're their usual colors. They can still chase you through if you go down. Also, supposedly you can take a break if you go through the one just to the right of where you start and just stay in that place if no ghosts are "looking" at you, though I've never been able to make that work.
Places the ghosts can't follow you
The tunnel slows the ghosts down. Just be careful not to go into the tunnel when another ghost is going in the other side of the tunnel. In my experience, Inky is the one that's most likely to do this. Also, if you eat a power pellet right after you get out of the tunnel, any ghosts that were chasing you through the tunnel will turn around and go back through the tunnel the other way. This is especially useful in the 5th key and from the 7th key onward, when the ghosts don't turn blue after you eat a power pellet.

Learn each ghost's behavior. Blinky follows you. Pinky tries to cut you off at the pass. Inky acts like Pinky when Blinky isn't near him. When Blinky is near Inky, Inky acts like Blinky. Clyde doesn't really do anything to try to catch you. He just gets in your way, messing up your plans when you least expect him to be there.
