22 SEP 2003 17TH ANNUAL ARIA AWARDS And Then There Were Five In what has been nothing short of an extraordinary rise to the top of the Australian music community, singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem has emerged as a bona-fide heavyweight with a staggering 10 nominations for the 17th Annual ARIA Music Awards. She becomes the first female artist in the history of the ARIA Awards to receive so many nominations in a single year. She also becomes the first artist to be nominated with 3 different songs in the Highest Selling Single category. The nominees for the 17th Annual ARIA Music Awards reflect the remarkable diversity of Australian music talent that has been developed over recent years. This assembly of talented and diverse performers has resonated not only with the voting academy but with the music loving public. Independent trio The Waifs have received 6 nominations for their winsome OEUp All Nightı album while Powderfinger reinforce their status as Australiaıs number one band with 5 nominations for their fifth long player OEVulture Streetı. Amiel has also received 5 nominations for her debut solo release OEAudio Outı. This yearıs nominations also sees the emergence of relative newcomers The Sleepy Jackson (4 nominations), Pete Murray (2 nominations) and Candice Alley (1 nomination) artists who are certain to enjoy a long career. Within the final five nominees list that follows is a roll call that features some of the years most exciting music names - from the firmly established talents of Silverchair, John Butler Trio and Something For Kate (3 nominations each), John Farnham, Kylie Minogue, Nick Cave, Renee Geyer and The Wiggles (2 nominations each) to the more recent talents of 1200 Techniques, Rogue Traders and The Androids (2 nominations each).
