It's a girl

FOR THE BLUE WIGGLE

He may be famous for being blue – but Anthony
                                                                                       will soon be seeing pink.

Within just six months, Blue Wiggle Anthony Field has got engaged, married                                                                    moved house and opened a coffee shop with his beautiful wife Mikaela. But
now the ultra busy couple have another reason to celebrate  – they’re
                                                             expecting a little Pink Wiggle!”
For fun loving Anthony, who walked down the aisle in May, it's nothing short of
“a miracle” that Mikaela became pregnant on their wedding night – TheWiggles                                                              star feared he’d never have a  family of his own.
“You know what? I’d always wanted a baby, but to be honest I had almost given                                                               up on the idea, until Mikaela came along”  explains the 40 year old muso,                                                                        who’s spent the past 12 years entertaining other people’s children with The                                                                    Wiggles.
“And even then we weren’t sure it would be possible. Miki has had severe                                                                        endometriosis and, only a month before the wedding, she was in hospital                                                                        trying to get it all fixed up. When we got the news, it was brilliant, a
                                                               real blessing.
“We just thought, ‘A baby, and so quickly’, it must have been all that Greek                                                                      dancing at the reception”.
And there was a lot of Greek dancing - not forgetting the Irish jigs, Mexican music and Anthony’s silver tin whistle solo – when he tied the knot with Mikaela Patisteas at Our Lady of the Rosary church in outer- Sydney’s Kellyville. Only two weeks later the couple had their first inkling that something strange was going on. “Suddenly I  noticed that Miki was falling asleep all the time, which was odd because she’s usually a real bundle of energy”, grins the excited father-to-be, formerly a Cleo Bachelor Of The Year.
“One day we had stopped at a service station and she  just nodded off in the car. I looked at her and said, ‘I think you’re pregnant’, but it was still a big surprise when the home-test kit confirmed it”.
Due early next February, its 99% certain that the brand-new Wiggle will be a baby girl. “Yes shell be wearing a little pink skivvy” smiles 32 year old Mikalea who discovered the baby’s sex during a recent ultrasound.
“In profile she looks a lot like Casper the ghost. She was yawning and then she started wiggling all her fingers. She’s very active; I can feel her moving all the time, so she really is a little Wiggle”.
Now the proud parents–in-waiting are thinking up names. “Dorothy” jokes Anthony, “I had to say that”. They’re also planning a nursery at their new home in the harbourside suburb of Hunters Hill. But they confess the baby’s timing could have been better, since they’ve only just opened their café called Mikalinas in Sydney’s inner-city Glebe. “It’s been a big year” laughs Mikaela, who’s father Peter and Uncle Dennis own Griffiths Coffees and Teas in Melbourne. “We got engaged, married, moved, fell pregnant and started the café, all this since March….what’s that, six months! Mad you know In hindsight, I don’t know how we’ve done it, but we work really well as a team and this is defiantly proof of that. But Anthony really encouraged me to open Mikalinas because I've always wanted to run something on my own. I love cooking and coffee and food, so it’s just a natural progression, but Anthony gave me the confidence to do it. And when we discovered I was pregnant, we were so far into this, we just kept going…. “But we’re very lucky. The baby is a gift and I’m feeling wonderful. I haven’t had any morning sickness, which is a double bonus, working here. And I’ve only just started to notice my stomach getting in the way when I’m serving behind the counter.”
As Mikaela fills plates of home-made scones and fruit salad – “Yummy Yummy” quips Anthony, quoting The Wiggles hit – her millionaire husband churns out, lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites from behind the espresso machine.
“It’s great. This is like real work for a change”, explains Anthony who’ll be touring with the Wiggles again. The bands next big gig is a series of seven sell-out concerts at the New York’s Madison Square gardens held on Thanksgiving Day.
There’s a new CD and video, Whoo Hoo! Wiggly Gremlins! Plus an upcoming Australian tour with the Lights, Camera, Action! Show. And somewhere in the middle of his musical commitments, Anthony still has to help with the café.
“I don’t know what we’re going tot do for the next four and a half months, between the shop and the travelling and pregnancy. We’ll just have to come up with something” says Mikaela, who met her husband to be five years ago while she was busy working as The Wiggles merchandise brand manger.
But it took a coffee maker to bring love to the boil. “I hadn’t seen Miki for more than a year after she gave up her Wiggles job”, explains Anthony. “And then she sold me an espresso machine when I went into her fathers store in Melbourne at the end of 2001. So that was it”. The couple started dating; Mikaela moved to Sydney and now with the little Pink Wiggle on the way, their happiness is complete.
“It’s very romantic isn’t it” asks the delighted Mrs. Field. “You know, I really liked Anthony when I was working for The Wiggles. He’s such a lovely person, with a really beautiful aura about him”. Then she leans forward, blushes slightly and confides, “Secretly I've always had a bit of a crush on him”.
