Since our school system schedules ACRs on the anniversary of the enrollment date, I came back to case conferences and new schedules. Talk about a jolt! The Fall metting was outstanding. Thanks again to Charone and Deb Harmon for presenting two wonderful programs and to Meredith Hakes for hosting the event. I heard from many SLPs discussing ways to provide services to students using different criteria and innovative scheduling. These are excting times for school SLPs. This newsletter is a little different due to the fact that we are including the ballot for our new slate of officers. As you will see, we have several candidates for 2006-08. Please return the ballot by mail or bring it to the March 4th metting. The deadline will be March 4th for returns. I hope everyone has a great second semester. See you on March 4th at Westfield. ******************************************** Charone Shares You would think that I'd be feeling relaxed and calm after Winter Break, but no! My head is swimming with all the exciting changes that I think will be impacting the way that SLPs provide services for students. ASHA's Summer Schools' Conference was based on evidenced-based practice and the revision of IDEA which mandates a change in the way we identify and serve students with responsiveness to intervention. I'm also still trying to understand all of the information about licensing changes and continuing education requirements that Deb Harmom spoke about at our Fall meeting. I'm optimistic that all of these things will come together and allow school-based SLPs to use their expertise to meet the needs of a broader range of students and create more managemable work environments. What optimism! ***************************************** |
