Our Springstowne Wildcat Wrestling Team hails from Vallejo, CA. The City of
Vallejo is most known for being California’s State Capitol in the 1850’s and
the home to historic Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Nowadays Vallejo and wrestling
are synonymous with many state and national medallists coming out of the San
Francisco suburb of 120,00 people. With this said, here is the story of our
proud program
In the late 1970’s Springstowne Junior High briefly had
a wrestling program run through the Vallejo PAL. They were the green and gold
Tomahawks. Unfortunately the program did not last and it vanished until the
legendary Pete
Trave resurrected it in 1996. The Springstowne Wildcats took to the mat in
the Inaugural GVRD Vallejo City Wrestling Championships that same year.
In 1999 the Vallejo City Unified School District
shifted from a 7-9th grade Jr. High to the 6-8th grade middle school
format. In 2000 after several years of competing solely in the City Limits of
Vallejo, CA the Wildcats branched out to compete in other California cities by
traveling to Sonoma and American Canyon.
Since then the Wildcats have competed in California
tournaments as far North as Orland which lies 125 miles to the North and as far
South as Fresno which is 188 miles away.
From a competition standpoint the Wildcats have
wrestled at the highest level the Golden State offers as the Springstowne boys have come home with medallists from
the Northern California Tournament Of
Champions in Loomis and the California
Junior High State Championships in Fresno.
On the girl’s side the Lady Wildcats have hosted the USGWA Northern California Championships and
The California Middle School State
Championships dating back to the 2005 season. Our Lady Wildcats have won
the past three State Championships and have been honored by the State Senate
and State Assembly at the State Capitol in Sacramento!!!
GO WILDCATS!!!
