Meet Tyler. He loves to bounce like Tigger and rarely stops moving. That is because he has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He also has been diagnosed with Opositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), Sensory Integration Disfunction (SID), and is speech delayed. But all that doesn't slow him down in the least. He loves to help others and is a very sensitive child. He also enjoys playing on the computer and playing with his 2yr old brother.
Things associated with ADHD are: Trouble following directions Trouble with authority Seems to not listen Dissorganized, yet thrives on structure and "sameness" Trouble remembering something, but have an incredible ability to detail on other things Easily distracted Fidgety, can't sit still Impulsive, act before they think Literally bounce off the walls Have the ability to over-focus or "hyper-focus" Many people have those similar character traits. A person with ADHD will have all or most of those in excess. Recent studies have shown that ADHD is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. There is no cure, but it is very possible to learn how to cope with it. It is important to remember that ADHD is a REAL DISABILITY that effects ALL aspects of a persons life. Allthough in some situations a person may apear "normal" to others, but as soon as they are out of that situations the syptoms will reappear. That is what can make diagnosing ADHD very dificult. The sypmtoms must be present before the age of 7 years old and have lasted longer than 6 months. If you suspect you or your child has ADHD, consult a doctor near you.
