Bertha the Turtle and Her Young Snappers

22 minutes c1998
Includes a reproducible fact /coloring sheet, and two other activity sheets

On Memorial Day weekend, a mother snapping turtle came into my yard. It was seeking shelter from a brief rain storm. We helped her get into the creek behind my house and my family thought that we'd never see her again. Little did we know that we would adopt this turtle's family over the next 3 months.
Watch Bertha up close, as she lays her eggs. You might even catch a glimpse of an egg actually dropping out of the turtle into the nest?
When was the last time you saw baby snapping turtles up close coming out their nest?
According to a spokesperson at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, no one has ever been successful in filming a wild snapping turtle laying her eggs in the wild or lucky enough to film those same eggs hatching in the wild. This is a first! And you have an opportunity now to make this video a part of your collection.
