West Nile Worries | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In the past few months, our admissions of distressed raptors have tripled. Clinical signs give every indication that we are dealing with the West Nile Virus. These stricken birds require intensive, long-term supportive care. Right now there is a nationwide effort to develop treatments and strategies that may help to eradicate West Nile from our raptor populations. Wildlife Works, along with other rehabilitators, researchers, and government agencies is working hard, fighting to protect our local hawks and owls. Unfortunately, these birds are very expensive to treat. If you would like to contribute to their success, please consider making a donation of $10 or more. Check out some of the latest news stories from our area. 9-30-02 "Predatory birds contracting disease" 10-20-02 "West Nile virus may be killing raptors by the thousands" |
