| I started writing poetry when I was thirteen years old. Growing up in Flint, Michigan, It helped me express my feelings about the world around me. As I began to develop as a teenager it became a way to express my confusion, my joy, and my heartbreak. And as I became a young woman, It became a way of getting out my growing pains. Now, as an adult it's a way to find deeper meaning in my emotions and my life. I have won many awards and much more acclaim for my gift. My biggest acclaim came from my Grandmama, Bernice "Carsten" Courier,(R.I.P). She was my biggest fan and loudest supporter. After her death in May of 2000, I wanted more then anything to make her even more proud of me. Her faith in me has been my inspiration. Once she told me my poetry was a gift from God to share with the world. That means more to me than any award could come close to. So I dedicate all my poetry to my Grandmama. My Angel Above. |

| Your pain has now ended, And we'll all go on. Though it's not easy, Now that your gone. You have always been there, To kiss and wipe my tears. Now it's so hard to believe, Your no longer here. Our shopping and talking, And chocolate short cakes' no more. Your love and understanding, And the home made cards you always adored. You've always been there, Every day since I was young.
