"Yihana, Yihana!" Vebree shouted as she raced across the playground. "You’ll never bele-" her words were cut short as white light bloomed around her and she dissapered. "Vee!" Yihana was racing the spot where her friend had stood. Vebree now stood in a small cavern that had a rock desk sort of ledge that just stood as if grown out of the floor. There was a brass bell that had a sign that said IF NO ONE IS AT THE DESK RING THE BELL – MOTHER GODDESS "Wow" Vebree breathed she had heard of the Mother Goddess from the Tamora Pierce books that she and Yihana worshiped. "Well, here goes" she rang the bell. Footsteps sounded from deep within the cavern. "Did someone call me?" a husky voice made Vebree turn her head. There at the desk, robed in white, stood the Great Mother Goddess. "I called Great Mother" Vebree said, "Um what is this place?" "You are in The Pass that connects your earth with our Tortall." "So, how do I journey to back to earth" "Are you telling me that you don’t want to go to Tortall?" "No but I left some things down on earth that I would like to retrieve." "I can manage that" and white light engulfed Vebree again. People on the playground had almost forgotten Vebree’s disappearance when white light shone and Vebree was back. "Vee! Where were you?" Where Yihana’s first words to her. Vee steered her a way from the crowed before telling her "I’ve been in The Pass-" "The what?!" "The Pass that connects earth to Tortall I was wondering if you would like to come along on the first visit. "Do you think that you needed to ask that question?" "Well, no." Vee meekly answered. "Then lets go!" "Hold my hand" and together they ran across the playground. When they got to the cavern the Mother Goddess was waiting. "Will you introduce me?" the Mother Goddess asked. "No need" Yihana said, "I know who you are you are the Great Mother Goddess. Oh, I’m Yihana but my friends call me Yi." "Well I suppose you’ll be wanting to go to the palace." "Yes!" they said eagerly. "Well, before you go here put these on and carry the rest" she handed them each bundles and motioned towards the girl’s dressing rooms. These had little cubbyholes worn in to the rock walls. In the bundles, they found breaches, shirts, hoes, tunics, coats, and boots. They put on the clothes the goddess had given them. |
