When The Day Is Done …
Kel had not seen her friends for four long years now, but she was coming home, back from the Yamani Islands.
When Sir Rauol of Golden Lake and commander of the King’s Own had chosen her to be his squire, he had not told her that they would be departing almost immediately for the Yamani Islands.
The weeks before they left had been a flurry of activity. Kel’s mother had insisted on Kel learning to act like a lady and told her to brush up on her Yamani skills. First they started off with how to chose the right clothes, followed by makeup, then how to walk like a lady and ending with court manors such as how to curtsey and how to accept flowers from a gentleman.
And now she was coming home to become Tortall’s second woman knight. Personally Kel thought that facing the boys after such a long time was worse than entering the chamber of ordeal.
She had enjoyed her time at the Yamani court, because she had, had her first boyfriend there. Strangely her heart never fluttered when she thought of Neal. She realised sadly that it had just been a crush. She had broken up with Philip after two years as he had found someone else. Now she just thought of him as a friend.
